I'm here to show you the card I created for this blog hop. This time we are each sharing a "secret recipe" or "secret trick" which we love to use when card making.

My trick is to make my own patterned paper as I don't always have the exact colour of coloured cardstock to match the flowers or other elements in the card so I will show you what I do. It takes a little longer but the end result is always great and it's a money-saving hack too!

Now let me show you the card I created....

I created a rainbow of roses using the Craft-a-Flower Layering Die Set. There are 4 shades of each of the 8 colours and I don't have all those exact colours of cardstock so I made my own. Here is how I did that.

For each flower I used a set of Altenew Inks which have 4 shades and the die set has 4 layers for the rose. I simply dragged the ink cube directly over some scraps of cardstock in areas big enough to fit each die layer.

I then followed the layering guide which comes with the die set and die cut each layer from the hand-made coloured cardstock.

The lightest layer is the bottom layer and the darkest layer is the top layer which creates shading and depth to the rose.

I used the Altenew glue runner to adhere each layer. I then sprayed the roses with Altenew Iridescent Spray to add some shimmer.

I followed this "secret recipe" for each of the 8 roses I created in rainbow colours. SO PRETTY!!! I followed the same process for the leaves but only required 3 shades of green for these.

Here is another look at the completed card. I added a black cardstock border behind the roses before adhering them with foam tape and the leaves with liquid glue. The card is a slimline size of 4" x 8 1/2" A bold black and white sentiment finishes off this card
